Welland ME-940J

The Welland ME-940J connects one 2.5" disk via USB or eSATA. The main advantages are small size, low cost and no fan.

USB

You have a disk you want to connect temporarily. Using a USB case saves you opening your computer. The Welland ME-940J fits the purpose.

Small size

2.5" disks cost a little bit more than 3.5" disks but they are smaller and lighter. The Welland ME-940J is smaller and lighter as a result.

No power brick

2.5" disks have the additional benefit of running on the power from the USB port, saving you the weight of a power brick. When you use the eSATA connection, you still connect the USB cable to supply power.

No fan

There is no fan which means you can use it in a dusty environment without anything clogging up. You can have it sitting next to your head without a noisy fan distracting you from your work.

eSATA

eSATA is faster than USB and is only on new computers. When you are transferring from an old computer to a new computer, you can backup the old computer using the USB connection then connect to the new computer using eSATA. Do not limit yourself to a USB disk without eSATA.

Backup

When one disk breaks, you want a backup on a second disk and preferably a disk stored at another site. With the low cost of the Welland ME-940J, you could have several that you use in rotation between home, your office, and other secure locations.

Network Attached Storage

Many NAS devices include USB connections for additional storage plus they can run scheduled backups. You can add the Welland ME-940J as additional storage and set your NAS device to backup to the Welland ME-940J. If you do not need the huge storage capacity of the 3.5" disks, the Welland ME-940J reduces both the shelf space required for the device plus it does away with one power brick.

Conclusion

Consider one Welland ME-940J for a quick backup at your office that you can easily carry home for off site storage. I-Tech have Welland products at a good price and with reasonable delivery costs in Australia.
