The ability to steer a moving motor car without plowing into oncoming traffic is required for safe driving. Consumer Reports indicates that the Hyundai Sonata recall that has emerged of late was depending on a noted lack of such control. Approximately 140,000 Sonata's are being recalled beginning in October due to difficulties with the steering column intermediate shaft.
