Qnap TS-210 - Administration menu

Here are the administration menu options presented in the order displayed.

 

System Administration

System Administration contains the following options:

Power Management

This page contains the Restart and Shutdown buttons.

Restart/ Shutdown

Execute system restart/ shutdown immediately. [Restart] [Shutdown]

Restart: The server has been restarted. This page will automatically try to reconnect to the server after several minutes. If the reconnection fails, it may be due to a change of the server's IP address or name. Please find the proper IP address or name, then manually connect again.

Configure Wake on LAN (This option is not displayed. See note.)

Note: This option might not display because the hardware does not include that basic feature or because the firmware is faulty and does not detect the feature or because the Web pages are so pathetically bad that the option does not display. The option is in the HTML but it set to not show.

Help information: Wake on LAN Enable this option to power on the NAS remotely by Wake on LAN. Note: The function or its content is only applicable on some specific models.

When the AC power resumes:
(*) Resume the server to the previous power-on or power-off status.
( ) The server should remain off.

Set power on/ power off/ restart schedule
[ ] Enable schedule
You get options to restart the machine each day plus power down plus power up.

System Logs

Check here for error messages. After a power failure, there may be a message asking you to check the disks. Select Check now in Volume Management.

Disk Management

Disk Management contains the following options:

 

Volume Management

This section lets you check the RAID array and and scan the disks for bad sectors. Perform the scan when recycling old disks. Perform the check after a power failure.

Check now: The Logical volume (RAID array) has a Check now button. You may be asked to run the check after restarting the Qnap from a power failure. The check of the two 2 TB Hitachi disks lasted 20 minutes.

Access Right Management

Access Right Management contains the following options:

  • Users
  • User Groups
  • Share Folders
  • Quota

 

Users

The only user defined by default is the admin user created during installation. I add Peter and some other users.
Select Create a User.

  1. Step 1 of 8 is a list of steps. Next.
  2. User information. Enter the information then Next.
  3. Quota settings. There is not quota needed. Next.
  4. User Groups. Only needs default group Everyone. Next.
  5. Personal Share Folder. Create Personal Share Folder: Yes
    1. New Folder Name: peter
    2. Hide folder: No
    3. Lock file (oplocks): Yes
    4. Disk Volume: (default) (There is only one volume)
    5. Path: Specify path automatically
    6. Description: Backups for Peter on Q210nas
  6. Share Folders. The default is to not share the following folders. Next.
    1. Network Recycle Bin 1
    2. Public
    3. Qdownload
    4. Qmultimedia
    5. Qrecordings
    6. Qusb
    7. Qweb
  7. Confirm settings. Next.
  8. This step grinds away for a few seconds then says the user account has been created. Finish.
