Video not available, cannot find 'vids:MJPG' decompressor.

Your AVI file from your camera will play sound but not display video. AVI uses different codecs (converters) for sound and video. The sound system is so simple it almost always works. The video can vary and you have to install the right codec.

One suggestion is to select Options » Properties/Settings » Video/Sound and switch on [*] Use Directshow. This fixes problems with some types of video on some versions of Windows. In my test this changed the video display from a grey video display screen to a blank black screen.

Alternatives

If you have a lot of images and want better image management, consider some alternatives. F-spot is a free open source image manager for Linux. Shotwell is another free open source image manager for Linux and replaced F-Spot as the default in both Ubuntu and Fedora. ACDSee is a proprietary image manager for Windows, has the most features, and the best image adjustments of any image manager.
